Nocked’s Revised Gameplay Mechanics, Part 4 – Building for Success

What is Robin Hood without a charming home in the forest? In Nocked your base is the heart of your campaign against the Sheriff of Nottingham, and is part of the third pillar of the revised gameplay mechanics for Nocked’s forthcoming desktop release, July 17th, 2019.

From a story perspective, the base serves as a pause in the action, a place to update various narrative arcs, provide news and mail, and take stock of your progress before deciding which of several missions to undertake next. From a mechanical perspective, the base draws from the other two mechanical pillars (discussed in previous week's blog posts), and integrates them into a cohesive whole. Building your base requires granular resources; in turn, the base provides a steady source of power to fuel regional activities, which allows you to gain influence with various factions and open up new story opportunities. New story opportunities are a way to gain granular resources, which allow you to upgrade your base, gain more power, unlock new story opportunities, and the cycle continues. In short, if you take care of your base, your base will take care of you.

There are three different bases in the game, each with its own playstyle, resource, and reward focus, but the basic principles remain the same. Next week I'll talk about the second part of the revised structural mechanics – structural resources.
